05 · Engineering FAQ

The questions we get most.

Why Si₃N₄ for battery cathode milling?
Battery slurry requires zero Fe contamination — Si₃N₄ contributes no metal ions. Hardness 78 HRC means 3–5× lower wear than alumina, further reducing contamination risk and lowering media replacement frequency.
What size bead for my application?
Target D50 determines optimal bead size: D50 < 1µm → use ≤0.5mm beads. D50 1–10µm → 1–3mm beads. D50 > 10µm → 3–10mm. Send your feed D90 and target D50 — we'll recommend.
How do I calculate media charge?
Standard: 50–60% of mill volume. Si₃N₄ density 3.2 g/cm³ (lighter than ZrO₂ at 6.0 g/cm³) — adjust fill weight accordingly. We'll advise on your specific mill geometry.
Wear rate vs alumina and ZrO₂?
Si₃N₄ wear rate: 3–5× lower than alumina, 1.5–2× lower than ZrO₂ in hard abrasive slurries. Higher initial cost offset by longer replacement intervals and lower contamination.
What sample quantity is available?
No MOQ on samples: 100g to 1kg sample packs for mill trials. No charge for qualification samples. Sample charges credit against first production order.
What documentation is supplied?
Material certificate (XRF purity), SDS, and lot traceability with every shipment. Trace metal content cert for battery manufacturer qualification programs.
